Conformity assessment is a means to guarantee a safe, quality product, placing it and adapting it as effectively as possible to meet the demands of the modern market. This is the area within which Certottica operates.
Certottica is able to assess the conformity of all types of eye and face protection and of all medical devices for the eyes, with the exception of corrective lenses. Specifically, Certottica is able to:
assess CE conformity for all types of eye and face protection, in particular sunglasses, protective goggles, protective visors and masks;
assess CE conformity for some types of category I medical devices relating to sight, in particular prescription glasses, over-the-counter glasses and ophthalmic lenses;
verify the essential requisites and the design/technology prerequisites of products;
issue test reports to back up the technical documentation and the conformity declaration provided by manufacturers for glasses and sun filters, frames for prescription glasses, ophthalmic lenses and over-the-counter glasses.
Conformity certificates must be issued by a notified body before category I and II devices can be sold on the market. Certottica is accredited by the Ministry for Productive Activities as a notified body for the certification of protective devices for the eyes and face, recognised by the European Commission with identification number 0530. Certottica issues certificates for the following protective devices:
- glasses and shields for protection of non-ionising radiation (UV and IR rays, welding, sun glare)
welding shields
- devices to protect the eyes and face from mechanical risks (accidental impact, particles produced during turning and cold moulding operations)
- glasses, masks or net shields for gardening and forestry operations
- devices to protect the eyes from dust, gas and liquids
- motorcycle goggles
